Fall Winter 2008
…the winter shoal was a clouded, gloomy mirror often struck by the garbin wind which when it blew sounded like the reeds on the sand bank of the lagoon.
Solitary fishermen in the dawn mist breathed in the sea air covered in thick clothing, woolen jackets matted over time, honest cloths and heavy homemade knits.
As in a journey through old closets, the BARENA AW2008 collection draws inspiration from the Earth and from those who belong to it.
Wool, the queen of fibres, dyed into winter colours to confuse one with nature, almost reverting back to it; tough yarns and traditional weaving reproduce collections from outdated historical archives.
Luminous wool satins which hark back to the elegance of times gone by, velours which excel quality or the wise blend of linen and cashmere.
The soft lines, thanks to the absence of rigid inner structures and careful washes, are decisive and potent like a BURCHIO fisherman’s knit or a BANCO longshoreman’s racket.
The TOPPA jackets have been made from woven fabrics which heighten freedom of movement despite being fitted. The monochrome shades of the fog, the shrubs and reeds burnt by frost, evergreen bushes on the shore and the lagoon’s black grey are the prevailing colours in this collection.
